What are Follow-Up Prescriptions in Mental Illness?
Although patients can obtain refills for initial prescriptions directly from the pharmacist, prescription changes may occur after a follow-up appointment. Nonphysician team members generally cannot change prescriptions without physician approval, but they may influence such prescription changes. (As noted earlier, some non-physicians may have prescribing privileges.) Apart from the psychiatrist, prescription changes are most often influenced by the pharmacist, the formulary committee, and the psychiatric nurse.
